Useful in new construction installations to cover up the backing plate, protecting it from dry-walling and painting. Also lets drywallers know where to cut an opening. You can use a rectangle piece of cardboard to protect the hole and wires or one of these. NOTE: You'll need longer screws if your back mount is plastic and also note that this guard covers 90% of the back mount - the edges are open because the guard is rounded not square.
